JV between BT and MCI. More than doubled revenues to $1bn.
1994 -1996 COO BT Europe - British Telecom: Led BT expansion into mainland Europe. Board Member of six European joint ventures.
1992 – 1994 GENERAL MANAGER OF UK CUSTOMER SERVICE (Apparatus) – British Telecom. Reduced national workforce from circa 12,000 to 7,000 whilst improving customer service
1986 – 1992 CHIEF EXECUTIVE (from 1989) - BT City Business Products Ltd: Developed, manufactured, sold dealing-room communication equipment worldwide.
1984 – 1986 VICE PRESIDENT - Centel Financial Systems (New York): responsible for sales and service of technical systems to Wall Street Institutions.

Executive Experience
CHIEF EXECUTIVE - HBS Ltd 2004 – 2007
A private equity owned organisation supplying business process outsourcing services to the public sector, particularly local authorities. The company was owned by Nomura and managed by Terra Firma.
Transformed the business from loss making (2003/04 EBITDA -£16M) to profit (2006/07 EBITDA + £2m).
The business became the benchmark for transformational improvement of UK public services as evidenced by major customer contract renewals, new business successes and the ultimate sale of the business to Mouchel Parkman PLC in 2009. Successes included a 12-year contract with Oldham MBC for the outsourcing of support services (Value >£200M). At time of sale HBS had a forward order book value of circa £1bn.

PRESIDENT & CHIEF EXECUTIVE - COLT Telecommunications plc 1999 –2003
(previously Chief Operating Officer)
Listed on the LSE and NASDAQ, current market cap circa £1Bn. Operating in 13 European countries and USA. Provides communication services to European business customers. Services range from the provision of local and pan European optic fibre networks through to complex outsourcing of customers’ e-commerce requirements. Turnover >£1Bn (70% from mainland Europe) with over 5,000 staff.
Responsible for completing the £2Bn network and infrastructure build phase of the business and driving revenue and profit growth. During this period COLT won 28 European awards for quality of service to its customers and became the communication supplier of choice to global customers e.g. Deutsche Bank, Diageo, Reuters, Morgan Stanley, Dante, Regus, Fiat.
Effective management of City (US and Europe) investors. As a result, raised >£0.75Bn funding from the public markets, allowing the business plan to be fully funded

PRESIDENT AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER - Concert Communication Inc 1996 – 1999
A JV between MCI and BT Plc headquartered in Reston, Virginia, USA. A global provider of managed voice and data services. Presence in 28 countries supplying the communication needs of global customers such as Ford, Grand Metropolitan and Merrill Lynch. Grew revenues from $500m to $1bn. Headcount circa 1,400. Led company growth during complex changes in company ownership (MCI, WorldCom, BT, AT&T).

CHIEF OF OPERATIONS - BT Europe 1994 – 1996
BT’s expansion into mainland Europe included both minority and majority ownership of communication companies in 23 European countries. Created the operational model that positioned BT as the premier European supplier of communication services post-liberalisation of the European telecom market in 1998.

GENERAL MANAGER OF CUSTOMER SERVICE (Apparatus) – British Telecom 1992 – 1994
Responsible for the service of BT's business customer equipment nationally (UK). Turnover was circa £700M. Initial headcount circa 12,000.
Introduced processes and systems that improved QOS to the best levels BT had ever achieved.
Introduced a commercial culture that underpinned turnaround from loss to profit (circa £150m improvement in profit), which involved reducing headcount by over 4,500.

MANAGING DIRECTOR - BT City Business Products (CBP) Ltd 1986 – 1992
A wholly owned subsidiary of BT supplying specialised IT products and solutions to the wholesale finance sector. Current revenue >£100M. 300 person organisation with products distributed in over 31 countries.
Increased sales by 100% in 3 years (60% overseas) including introduction of products into Asia.

Supplier of network and utility services to student accommodation, the private rental sector and business parks in UK and Europe. Backed by Inflexion PE. 3 acquisitions successfully completed to date plus achieving organic growth rates of 30% per annum.
K2 Partnering Solutions Ltd - CHAIRMAN July 2017 – to date
Global supplier of technical IT skills to major multinationals and Systems Integrators. Technology clusters include SAP, Salesforce , AWS, Azure, Cyber Security and Big Data. Backed by Inflexion PE.

A fibre based carrier supplying Metro and FTTH services to UK secondary cities. Successful listed on AIM in Jan 2014 followed by subsequent placement in May 2014 raising a total of £70M. Subsequent £200M equity and debt raise enabling reverse takeover of the ‘non-Hull’ assets of KCOM in January 2016.
Marston Group Ltd – CHAIRMAN 2012 – 2016
UK’s largest judicial enforcement business. Business backed by Inflexion PE. Implementing a successful buy and build strategy. 7 acquisitions completed successfully. Sold to CSC PE giving a 4.4X return for Inflexion..
Reliance Secure Task Management - CHAIRMAN 2010 – 2012
Business Process outsourcing in the police and criminal justice market place. Won major outsource contracts including UK Border Authority value £150M. Successfully sold business to Capita.
Axell Wireless Ltd - CHAIRMAN 2008 – 2011
A private equity (ECI) owned organisation supplying mobile network coverage solutions globally. Completed acquisitions of competitors in Sweden and Israel. Eventually sold to Cobham PLC

An AIM listed outsourcing company providing integrated support services to the emergency services.
